Congratulations to Osvaldo Torres of Puerto Rico for winning a set of pickups in The Great Tone Treasure Hunt. He followed the link back to the Seymour Duncan forum and correctly found the three pickups David Orpheus was looking for. The Seymour Duncan forum is a great assest for anyone doing research, or wanting to discuss pickups, guitars and gear. With nearly 30,000 users, you are sure to get a wide variety of opinions from people who share similar music tastes, guitars or have dealt with wiring issues that you are experiencing.
Here are the posts from David Orpheus and the answers:
CLUE #1: Maybe I’m just indecisive, but I’m having a hard time deciding which SD replacement pups I want to put in a funky old Aria Pro II I just picked up at a yard sale for fifty bucks. I was thinking P-90s, but I’d hate to give up a full humbucker sound. And I wouldn’t mind if there was some way to get a cool single-coil split. I wish there was some way I could get all three tones! Any advice, guys? – The Seymour Duncan P-Rails is a full-size humbucker that splits to either a “real deal” P-90 or a traditional single coil.
CLUE #2: PANTERA RULEZ 4EVER! THERE NEVER WILL BE ANOTHER DIMEBAG! EVERYONE WHO TRIES IS JUST A PENNYBAG! HOW CAN I GET HIS SOUND??!? — Dimebag Darrell of Pantera used the Dimebucker in the bridge which is a hard-hitting high output pickup.
CLUE #3: My uncle Pete just GAVE me his 40-year old Gibson SG! Can you believe it? It’s not exactly perfect — he sanded off the finish, painted it fuchsia, and lacquered it up with the safe varnish he uses on his boat. The original pickups are long gone — he traded them for some super-mega-distorto crap back in the ’80s. I want to restore it to its original glory, though it’s never gonna look new again. What’s a good old-school pickup with a cool aged look? - A good fit for David would be the Antiquity series of pickups which combine the vintage tone of the ’50s and ’60s with the aged look of vintage pickups.
Thanks to all who stopped by the Seymour Duncan Forum. The Richmond Guitars Treasure Hunt begins tomorrow!
